What is this programme?
The UX Design Fundamentals Certificate is a self-paced online programme that teaches the end-to-end user experience process: problem framing, user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, accessibility basics, usability testing and developer handoff. It is aimed at beginners and at adjacent professionals — visual designers, front-end developers, product owners — who need a repeatable working method and a portfolio-ready case study rather than software tutorials. The certificate is a record of course completion issued by ecertificate.pro; it is not an accredited, licensed or state-approved qualification, it is not tied to any professional register, and it does not by itself qualify a person for a specific role. Its practical use is as supporting evidence of structured study alongside a portfolio, which remains the main signal employers assess in UX hiring.
Who it is for
Written for graphic and web designers moving into product work, front-end developers who end up making interface decisions alone, product owners and founders who need to brief and judge design work, and career changers assembling a first UX portfolio. No prior design employment is assumed and no specific software licence is expected.

The UX Process and Problem Framing What user experience work actually covers and where it sits next to UI, product management and engineering. Turning a vague brief into a problem statement, defining primary and secondary user tasks, choosing success measures such as task completion and error rate, and setting the scope of a single design cycle.

User Research Methods Choosing between interviews, contextual observation, surveys and analytics review for a given question. Writing non-leading interview scripts, recruiting a small realistic sample, note-taking and tagging techniques, affinity mapping raw quotes into themes, and building personas and journey maps that stay tied to the source evidence.

Information Architecture and Navigation Organising content so users can predict where things are: sitemaps, hierarchy depth versus breadth, labelling and vocabulary choices, open and closed card sorting, tree testing, and the practical differences between global, local, contextual and utility navigation on desktop and mobile layouts.

Wireframing, Patterns and Prototyping Sketching and low-fidelity wireframes, grid and layout structure, and the standard interaction patterns for forms, search, filtering, onboarding, empty states and error recovery. Building a clickable prototype at the fidelity the question requires, and knowing when higher fidelity starts to waste time.

Visual Fundamentals and Accessibility The visual decisions that change usability: hierarchy, type scale and line length, spacing systems, alignment, and colour used for meaning. Practical accessibility work including colour-contrast ratios, target sizes, focus order, form labelling, and designing so that content still works with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation.

Usability Testing, Iteration and Handoff Writing task-based test scripts, moderating without prompting, recording observations, and separating severity from personal preference. Heuristic evaluation as a low-cost check, deciding what to change after a test round, and preparing specification and handoff notes so an interface can be built as intended.

Prerequisites
None beyond basic computer literacy and comfortable reading in English. A browser and any interface design tool with a free tier are enough — the exercises are tool-neutral and the early stages can be done on paper. No drawing ability, no statistics background and no HTML, CSS or JavaScript knowledge is required.
Completion
You work through the modules in your panel at your own pace, completing the practical exercises and the end-of-module review questions as you go; the exercises are built so that they accumulate into one continuous case study from problem statement to tested prototype. Once every module is marked complete, your certificate is prepared and uploaded to the same panel within 24-48 hours, and you receive an email notification when it is available to download.
